Marc Koehler Architects have designed the House Like Village in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. With the transformation in the old harbor-cantina on KNSM eiland in Amsterdam into large apartments, this developing transformed function but kept its identity.

The house we produced is composed from 4 more compact ‘houses’, containing the harder private spaces and supporting facilities. In between them, an available up multifunctional place emerges (the streets), and organic daylight enters deep into your house.

The elevated following level is employed for cooking, dining, working and carries a guest house, connected by walking bridges. These ‘roof terraces’ are placed in this kind of means that you just may fully utilize the search of the adjacent harbor. The walls consist of closets and cupboards which double function being a wooden help shape. The entire loft-living area is therefore used, but retains its open character.

The enclosed volumes also perform as local climate compartments and limit the energy-use. In the future the functional living space is usually enlarged by developing further ‘houses’ in the space now turned open.
